Orta blu, with an eye for the potential of denim, partnered with UNICEF and invited SCAD fashion design students to design uniforms for children in Sierra Leone. Often, youth do not attend school when they do not own a uniform. The uniforms, being sewn by a women's labor union in Lebanon, offer the women work, and the children a uniform of their own. Judges for the contest included Valentino, GQ Italy, and Teen Vogue.
My main goal for the design is to include several pockets. There are possible instances where the children may not own backpacks and the uniform may have to serve as one. The uniform must be able to withstand long trips to and from school, play time, and repeated wear.
